Every family is welcome at Joyful Healthcare — with insurance, without it, or somewhere in between. This page explains your options in plain language. When in doubt, call us at (201) 266-5365 — we walk families through this every week, in English and Spanish.

Simple, clear prices while you're uninsured

You never need insurance to book a visit. Our self-pay prices are flat and published — no surprise bills:

$100 Well visit / physical
$50 Sick visit

Payment is due at the time of the visit. We accept cash, check, credit/debit cards, HSA/FSA cards, and online payments.

Vaccines are free for uninsured children who qualify for the federal Vaccines for Children (VFC) program — most uninsured children do. No administration fee, no cost at all.

For undocumented families

You do not need to share your immigration status to be seen at our office. Your child's care comes first.

And there is bigger news many families haven't heard: under New Jersey's Cover All Kids program, every child under 19 who lives in New Jersey can apply for NJ FamilyCare (free or low-cost health coverage) — regardless of immigration status. A Social Security number is not required to apply.

Never applied for insurance before? Here's the whole process

If insurance paperwork is new to you, that's okay — it is simpler than it looks. Here is the entire journey:

  1. Gather a few documents. Proof that you live in New Jersey (a lease, utility bill, or piece of mail), your child's date of birth, and household income information (pay stubs are fine).
  2. Apply. Online at njfamilycare.org or by phone at 1-800-701-0710. The application is free. Applications typically take about 30–45 days to process.
  3. Choose a health plan. Once approved, you'll pick a plan. We accept Horizon NJ Health, UnitedHealthcare Community Plan, Aetna Better Health, and Fidelis Care.
  4. List us as your child's PCP. Call the member services number on your new insurance card and ask them to list Dr. Isabel Velez / Joyful Healthcare as your child's primary care provider. This must happen before the visit.
  5. Call us to book. That's it — you're covered.

Don't wait for coverage to get care

An application in progress is not a reason to skip a checkup or sit out a sick visit. Bring your child in — once coverage starts, future visits are simply billed to your plan.

If money is tight while you wait, talk to us. We offer flexible payment options, and families facing real financial hardship can ask about a need-based discount or fee waiver while their NJ FamilyCare application is pending. Getting your child seen comes first — we'll work the rest out together.
